In 2023, the head of the Dnipro Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office bought a new car — a BMW X5. The official’s declaration states that the car costs UAH 3.23 million. The prosecutor explained to Slidstvo.Info journalists that he needed the car to take his family out of the city in case of danger.

On 15 September 2023, the head of the Dnipro Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office, Dmytro Lavrinenko, reported significant changes in his property status. In early September, he purchased a 2022 BMW X5. The car cost the prosecutor UAH 3.23 million. The man bought it from the private enterprise Talisman. Representatives of government agencies often buy cars from this company.
The journalists sent a request to the Dnipro Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office to find out how Lavrinenko could afford an expensive car and why he needed it now.

In response to the request, Lavrinenko explained that he had taken out a 5-year loan to buy the car. He paid part of the money immediately — UAH 1.8 million — and the other part was borrowed from a bank.
“The purchase of such a vehicle was made for security reasons and to ensure a reliable approach to the possible saving of the lives of Lavrinenko’s wife and young children during a full-scale war, who have already left their home in Donetsk Oblast,” the request reads.
In 2022, Lavrinenko declared that he had $55,700 and UAH 270,000 saved.
In 2016, Lavrinenko was the head of the department of the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces until 2018. He then became a military prosecutor of the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Donetsk Garrison of the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Joint Forces. In 2021, he became the head of the Donetsk Specialised Prosecutor’s Office in the military and defence sphere of the Joint Forces, from where he moved to his current position as the head of the Dnipro Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office during the large-scale war.
