Ukrainian journalist Viktoriia Roshchyna went to Russian-occupied territories to report from there. Her route took her through Russia. Viktoriia was detained by the Russians and initially held in detention centres in the occupied territories, before being imprisoned in Taganrog Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 2. For many months, her family and colleagues waited for news of the journalist’s release from captivity, but in October 2024 her father received a letter from the Russians stating that Vika had died. Since then, neither the journalist’s body nor any news of her has been found.
The documentary traces the journey of 27-year-old Viktoriia, the conditions of her detention in a Russian prison, and the testimonies of those who saw the Ukrainian journalist and spoke to her.
Viktoriia was reportedly subjected to torture in places of detention, and the journalist herself had lost a great deal of weight and could only move about with the help of others.
These findings constitute evidence of previously unknown crimes committed by the Russians against a young woman who went to Russia to carry out her professional duties and did not return.
Slidstvo.Info worked on the investigation into the circumstances of Viktoriia’s captivity in collaboration with Reporters Without Borders and colleagues from the media outlets Suspilne and Hraty.
