Baltic Control Novorossiysk, a Russian company linked to the Danish international firm Baltic Control, which provided inspection services for exporting Ukrainian grain through the Russian-occupied port of Berdyansk in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, has changed its name to Baltic Inspection. Another Russian company co-owned by Baltic Control’s founder has been liquidated, Slidstvo.Info journalists found.
According to data from the analytical platform Spark, JSC Baltic Control Novorossiysk (registered in Novorossiysk) changed its name to JSC Baltic Inspection at the end of September 2025. The change occurred two months after Slidstvo.Info investigators established that the firm Baltic Control Novorossiysk, connected to Baltic Control (headquartered in Denmark), assisted in exporting grain from occupied Ukrainian territories.
Another Russian company with the same name (Baltic Control Novorossiysk, but registered in Yeysk) and co-owned by Hugo Pedersen (founder of the Danish Baltic Control) has been liquidated.
In the Russian registry of legal entities, it is listed as inactive since November 21, 2025.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, information about a Russian representative office disappeared from the Danish Baltic Control’s website. However, when journalists contacted the central office in Denmark to obtain contact details for the Russian branch, they were given the phone number of Alexander Shalimov, director of Baltic Control Novorossiysk.
Shalimov, speaking with a journalist who posed as a manager from a Polish company, confirmed that Baltic Control Novorossiysk provides cargo inspection services at the Berdyansk port. When a Slidstvo.Info journalist called Shalimov a second time, he claimed he no longer works in Berdyansk and did not respond to follow-up questions.
Investigators received no response to a written inquiry sent to the Danish Baltic Control. The Russian Baltic Control Novorossiysk also ignored the journalists’ letter.
The investigation, revealing that Baltic Control Novorossiysk provides hold acceptance and draft survey services (cargo weight verification) at the Berdyansk port (under Russian control since March 2022), was prepared in collaboration with KibOrg.
