The investigative film Breaking the Bank reveals how fraudulent schemes operated inside PrivatBank, and exposes previously unknown businesses and assets belonging to Kolomoiskyi and Boholiubov in the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Israel.
In December 2016, the state purchased Ukraine’s largest private bank for one hryvnia. Along with the nationalisation of PrivatBank, the government inherited an enormous set of problems.
According to calculations by international audit firm Kroll, Kolomoiskyi and his business partners illegally siphoned $5.5 billion out of PrivatBank.
Court proceedings surrounding the bank are ongoing in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Most recently, the American FBI opened investigations into both Kolomoisky and Boholiubov.
If their involvement in the billion-dollar fraud is proven, these wealthy and influential Ukrainians could find themselves behind bars — and their assets seized.
